1. Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Gateway Construction is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in line with UK Government targets.

The Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and use the appropriate UK Government emission conversion factors (DEFRA) for greenhouse gas company reporting.

We recognise the urgency of reducing our carbon footprint and continue to develop and implement strategies to meet this critical goal.

2. Organisational Boundary

This Carbon Reduction Plan relates to all UK operations of Gateway Construction Services Ltd, including office-based activities, site operations, fleet and associated supply chain activities where data is available.

3. Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline Year: 2023

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Our baseline emissions include emissions from our vehicle fleet, office energy consumption, waste management practices, and the impact of our tools and equipment.

4. Current Emissions Reporting

Employee figures are currently based on office-based staff only. This will be expanded to include site-based operatives in future reporting periods.

Additional Details

• Annual fleet fuel consumption: 48,775 litres of diesel.
• Scope 1 Emissions: 131,066 kg CO₂e (131 tonnes CO₂e).
• Increase in emissions compared to baseline is attributable to business growth and expansion of the fleet.
• Electricity consumption has remained consistent with baseline levels.

5. Scope 3 Emissions Breakdown (2024)

Scope 3 emissions refer to indirect emissions resulting from activities within Gateway Construction’s value chain. The following categories have been quantified:

Scope 3 Coverage Statement

The following Scope 3 categories have been included where data is currently available:

• Purchased goods and services
• Waste generated in operations
• Employee commuting
• Upstream and downstream transportation and distribution

The following categories are currently excluded due to data limitations but will be incorporated as data quality improves:

• Business travel (to be formalised and reported separately)
• Capital goods
• Fuel and energy related activities not included in Scope 1 & 2

Gateway Construction is committed to improving Scope 3 data completeness over time.

6. Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress towards achieving Net Zero, Gateway Construction has adopted a phased carbon reduction approach.

Short-Term Targets

• Achieve a 5% reduction in total emissions by 2025 (against 2023 baseline)

Medium-Term Targets

• Achieve a 15% reduction in total emissions by 2030

Long-Term Target

• Achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050

A continuous downward trajectory in emissions is planned through operational efficiencies, electrification of fleet and equipment, and supply chain engagement.

Gateway Construction will prioritise early-stage carbon reductions to maximise impact within the first five years of the plan. Targets will be reviewed annually to ensure alignment with the UK’s Net Zero trajectory and emerging best practice.

7. Carbon Reduction Projects

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or are planned:

Fleet and Transport

• Maintain ULEZ-compliant fleet
• Transition to hybrid and electric vehicles where operationally viable
• Optimise logistics and reduce unnecessary mileage

Energy Efficiency

• Conduct office energy assessments
• Improve energy efficiency across operations
• Investigate renewable energy solutions, including solar installations

Tools and Equipment

• Transition to battery-operated tools where feasible
• Eliminate petrol-powered tools by 2030

Waste and Materials

• Improve waste segregation, reuse and recycling
• Enhance waste tracking systems to better quantify Scope 3 emissions
• Engage with suppliers to reduce embodied carbon in materials

Management Systems

• Maintain and enhance Integrated Management System
• Work towards ISO 50001 (Energy Management)
• Align procurement practices with ISO 20400 (Sustainable Procurement)

8. Declaration and Sign-Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and use the appropriate UK Government emission conversion factors.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and approved by the senior management team.
